Update from the GCRV Pickleball Board
Hello again to all who stayed at the Park over the summer, welcome back to all who have recently returned and an early welcome back to all who are coming back a little later. We look forward to seeing all of you.
The Board met (online) earlier this week. Here are a few things the Board has been working on for you. Not all of these are complete, but all are in the works.
Main Court Lighting - We donated money to the Park to get this project moving in order to improve night play. You should see improvement when you go out there at night. If it is still not good enough, we will keep pushing.
AED Device at the Mountain Courts - We donated approximately half the cost to the Park to provide an AED Device and a weather cover at the Mountain Courts. If it is not up yet, we'll find out why. One of our board members will check this out ASAP.
Projects
Before we left in the Spring, we pushed the Park to make safety improvements at the Mountain Courts in the area by the stairs which lead into the courts. In addition, we asked for comfort improvements along the fences for our rests between games. We got commitments and we will keep pushing to get those improvements completed.
Repairs/Replacement of Courts 6 & 7 of the Main Courts. The word we are getting now is that the Park is asking for temporary improvements to take place quickly while they fine-tune the bids for replacement of the surface of those courts.
The board has approved the purchase of a new camera for the main courts.
The board has approved the purchase of 2 blowers for the Maintenance Committee.
As always, we need a few volunteers:
We are looking for two more people to serve on the By-Laws Committee. Some legal experience or a history of serving on a Non-profit board would be helpful but is not a requirement.
We are looking for a Program Specialist to work with our Global Pickleball Network App. This is the App we use to schedule our Round Robin play at all levels. This position will be the Go-To person to help the various level-of-play Coordinators with any problems they have with the App. This role is perfect for the person who is comfortable with computers; someone who is comfortable figuring out how an App works; someone who is comfortable troubleshooting and helping others in the use of the App. Julie Pellerin has been filling this role for 1-1/2+ years now and is ready for a break. Last year the Hall of fame was a joke. They hardly used the courts they had all weekend. Almost none of them showed for the awards, they charged us to eat and people were just walking in and eating without paying. Almost nobody at the dance.
